Fall is festival time and western Washington County has its share of festival events in September and October. Following is some information about each.
Clothesline Fair
The 65th annual Prairie Grove Clothesline Fair is Sept. 3-5 at Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park. This Labor Day weekend event, organized by Prairie Grove Lions Club, state park and Arts Center of the Ozarks, features more than 100 booths with artisans selling, displaying, and demonstrating their handmade crafts. In addition, there is square dancing, displays of antique farming equipment and musical entertainment. Non-profit organizations operate food and drink concessions in the park. This year, food trucks also will be available for visitors.
The arts and crafts fair is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. on Labor Day. Events include a parade through downtown Prairie Grove and exhibits on life during the time of Civil War.
There is a $5 fee for parking in the state park. Admission to the fair is free.
Cane Hill Harvest Festival
The 30th Cane Hill Harvest Festival will be held Sept. 17-18 on the grounds of historic Cane Hill College, located off Highway 45 in Cane Hill. The festival includes music, food, arts and crafts, quilt show, children's games and a petting zoo. Area residents will demonstrate how to make sorghum molasses, lye soap and hominy.
This year's Harvest Festival also will be held at A.R. Carroll Drug Store, Cane Hill Museum and the park pavilion area along Highway 45.
A country style breakfast is served 7-10 a.m. on Sept. 17 and 18 and a cornbread and beans lunch is available both days, along with food trucks on the property. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Live music will be ongoing throughout the festival and visitors will be able to view ongoing renovations to the historic Cane Hill College building.
This year, the Festival will have a bouncy, inflatable house and shaved ice.
No admission is charged.
Rustic Relics
The 2016 Rustic Relics fall show will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 15-16 at Nolan Farms in Morrow at the intersection of Arkansas Highway 45 and County Road 3. The show is free to the public.
The event includes a feature tractor, thrashing and baling demonstrations, tractor pulls for adults and children, antique tractor and equipment displays. Also available is a large museum on the show grounds with multiple displays and primitive camping areas.
Arkansas Apple Festival
The 41st Arkansas Apple Festival will be held Sept. 30-Oct. 2 on Lincoln Square. The fun weekend includes a parade, about 100 arts and crafts booths, food vendors and fresh apple slices given away to visitors to the festival. Other activities during the weekend include live music and games for children.
Festival hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Admission to the festival is free.
