All-Conference, Eric Hill, third baseman, senior

All-Conference, Brandon Hodge, senior

All-Conference honorable mention, Ellison Stephens, senior, played second base.

All-Conference honorable mention, Evan Shoffit, junior, played left field and pitched.

The Cardinals jumped the Lions out of the gate. Drew Sturgeon walked, then Eric Hill drove in a run on a sacrifice fly for the second out. Farmington batters, however, kept their composure and roughed up Gravette sophomore starter Jake Carver. Chase Brown stroked a 2-run single and Colton Kilgore drove in a run with a single staking Farmington out to a 4-0 lead and chasing Carver, who was replaced by junior Brodie Parsons.

Parsons recorded a strike-out to leave two runners stranded and get the Lions out of the inning, but Farmington had seized momentum.

"We got off to a great start. We scored three or four in the first and had a couple of good, key hits. We thought we could steal on them if we could get people on base and our guys did a really good job of doing that," said Farmington coach Jay Harper. "Then we got some key hits at times when we had runners in scoring position. That was the key to it, was starting off well and then our kids kept winning innings and adding to the score and it turned out great for us today."

In the top of the second, Sturgeon replicated his leadoff walk from an inning earlier. With one out, Eric Hill drove a single past third scoring Sturgeon, extending the Cardinal lead to 5-0.

In the top of the fourth, Farmington fueled its offense with Eric Hill leading off with a triple. Ellison Stephens scored him with a single.

Gravette coach Bryan Bearden again switched pitchers bringing in senior Hunter Cole, who fared no better against the red-hot Cardinals.

Freshman Trey Hill got all of the first pitch Cole threw blasting a 2-run homer as the Cardinals assumed an 8-0 lead.

Trey Hill, who earned a starting role at catcher, batted .372 for the season knocking out 24 hits, including 9 doubles and was voted All-Conference with an on-base percentage of .945.

"Trey has been hitting it really well and today he caught an outside fastball. He drove that and that was another key moment in the game where we got out of an inning where they had runners on and then Trey comes up and hits a two-run homer and just added to the score," Harper said. "I can't say more about our kids. They really did a good job."

Evan Shoffit drew a walk before Gravette finally got an out. Kilgore reached on an error when the ball was bobbled on a bounce by first. Brown delivered an RBI single into right center and with runners at the corners Sturgeon smacked a 2 RBI single pushing Farmington's advantage to 11-0.

Sturgeon, an All-State selection, played centerfield and leadoff hitter batting .454 with 38 hits, 13 doubles, 3 triples, 3 home runs and 28 RBIs with 22 stolen bases.

Two batters later, Eric Hill produced his third RBI of the day off a single prompting another pitching change with Caleb Wallace taking the mound for the Lions. In a double switch Haden Bates took over at catcher for Gravette. Although Farmington didn't score in the fifth neither did Gravette, which suffered a 12-0 run-rule loss and elimination.

"Myles Harvey pitched 61 pitches in five innings, scattered four or five hits, didn't give up a run. For a freshman that's a really good job. We're really proud of him. He's our No. 1 right now and when he's on the mound we feel pretty good," Harper said.

Harvey played outfield when he wasn't on the mound, compiling a 5-1 record with a 2.17 ERA, batting .333 with 20 hits, on-base percentage of .779 and was named All-Conference.

Eventual State 4A finalist, Shiloh Christian, needed 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh to squeeze past Farmington, 6-5, in the district semifinal April 25 at Gentry. The Cardinals lost 8-5 to Morrilton in a first-round game of the 4A North Regional to end their season at 11-14 overall and 4-4 in league play.
