A Proud Great-Grandmother

Miracle -- "A wondrous thing, a marvel." Every year we see miracles, even when ice and snow cover the crocus and daffodils, when they show up, and after thawing out, coming back, harbingers of Spring, cheering the foggy days.

Pride -- "Delight or satisfaction in one's children," is one example. Under this, I claim the right to tell of another of my great-granddaughters, who have won their school's spelling contests. Recently, Kate, daughter of Dean and Misty Cheatham of Van Buren, won her school's contest, then entered the county contest. Everything was going along fine there, until Kate looked around and found that she and only one other contestant was left standing, and she suddenly panicked; and thus missed her next word. I saw only a brief glimpse of her on T. V. and she was holding a big trophy, for second place.

Some humor, they learn young.

After her 3 year old begged and begged, the mother gave in and let her attend a concert with her and the older siblings. As they took their seats, she handed programs to the children. Following the lead of her siblings, the 3 year old opened her program, then announced, "I'll have the chicken."

St. Patrick's Day is March 17, and instead of the "lucky" things of wearing green, finding a four-leaf clover, and kissing the Blarney Stone, here is an Irish Blessing:

May the road rise up to meet you,

May the wind be always at your back,

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

and the rainfall soft upon your fields,

and until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Happy birthday to Robin George, Atlas May, Jerry Bradley, Carol Snarr, Paula Cox, Tim Bailey, Justin Spear.

Happy anniversary to Barry and Nicole Evans, Al and Sue Sanders, Garret and Brittany Lipford.

Happy years, all!
