FARMINGTON -- Edging ever closer to their ultimate goal of winning it all, Farmington's boys golf team of Rhett South, Landon Lawson, Dakota Bogan and Clayton Antwine finished as State Runner-up.

Competing at the Cherokee Village North Course Oct. 7, the Cardinals placed second 10 strokes behind Valley View, which won its second state title in the last three years.

"Rhett South shot a 75, Landon Lawson shot an 80 and Dakota Bogan shot an 80. It was a beautiful day. That's a great golf course," said Farmington coach Randy Osnes. "Highland organized the state meet. Highland did a great job with that and our kids played very well. They enjoyed the course."

Valley View's team total was 225 while Farmington brought home the State Runner-up trophy with a tally of 235.

Third place Brookland was nine strokes behind Farmington. Brookland had a team total of 244 with Shiloh Christian fourth with 248 and Pulaski Academy fifth at 258.

Hunter Jowers won the medalist for Valley View by shooting a 68, three strokes lower than Ben Fowler, of Shiloh Christian, who shot a 71. Landon Hendrix, of Brookland, shot a 72, and Cooper Williams, of Crossett, placed fourth overall with a 74. South rounded out the top five at 75. Luke Morgan, of Valley View, also shot a 75.

Osnes praised the Farmington quartet of juniors, saying they carried themselves with class and do things the right way in the classroom while playing exceptional golf.

"Last year as sophomores they finished third, this year they're are the State Runner-up, so if they keep going that way the plan is they'll win it next year even though they'll have a new coach," Osnes said referring to his recent announcement that this school year 2020-2021 will be his last coaching at Farmington High School.
