Will Weather Surprise Us Again?

When the sudden, unexpected wind blew out half of one of my trees and littered the whole yard with twigs and limbs on July 23, I thought, "It could have been worse," and it was in many places -- a storm wide enough to reach from Missouri to Van Buren (at least) and as far east as Mountain Home, Ark., with thousands without power.

Yes, it was much worse.

Then two days later, a similar, sudden wind hit eastern Virginia, killing at least two people there.

We wonder, was it the same storm, so wide and so long? What will the weather surprise us with next?

Members of the Lincoln Kitchen Band went to Elkins Tuesday and enjoyed a day of fun. That morning, two games of Bean Bag Baseball were played and Elkins beat Lincoln soundly in both games, but Lincoln members were good losers. After a delicious lunch of fried chicken and all the trimmings, Elkins proved to be good sports by listening to the "music" by the band and whole-heartedly taking in all activities, including the chicken dance.

Elkins seniors now have a nice, new center to enjoy.

The first August Tuesday evening's "Remember and Reminisce" at the Lincoln library was well attended. Many photos of former events and citizens were passed around, plus old year books, albums, newspapers and more.

The two hours passed quickly, as old times and happenings were shared. All who remember Lincoln's "old days" are urged to attend each week and share.
