No Challengers For School Board Positions

The period to file as a school board candidate closed noon July 8 and for Farmington, Prairie Grove and Lincoln, all incumbents filed to run for re-election. None of the candidates will have challengers.

Prairie Grove School Board has two open seats on the ballot. Incumbent Jerry Coyle filed for Position 3 and incumbent J.C. Dobbs filed to run again for Position 6.

Farmington School Board President Jeff Oxford filed to run for a third five-year term for Position 2.

Kendra Moore, Lincoln School Board president, also filed to run for the position representing Zone 1.

Prairie Grove and Farmington school board members are elected at-large by registered voters. In Lincoln, board members are elected by zone. Moore has to live in Zone 1 and only registered voters residing in Zone 1 can vote for that position.

The 2014 school election will be held Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Farmington, Prairie Grove and Lincoln school boards have adopted resolutions not to open a polling place on Sept. 16 because they do not have contested races on their ballot. None of the three districts is seeking a millage increase this year.

Since the three districts will not have a polling place, voters will have to cast ballots by early or absentee voting, according to Jennifer Price, Washington County Election Commission coordinator. Early voting takes place at the Washington County Clerk's office 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 9-12 and Sept. 15.
