Distracted Driving Is Dangerous

It was a sunny day for a change, and the Lincoln Kitchen Band was in great form Tuesday morning. Even the Center's cooks all took part in the chicken dance. The group has many photos taken over the years, especially during the parades, but they have never at one time had photos made, as many as special guest Lynn Kutter made Tuesday. Great sport that she is, Lynn even made the rounds to the tune of The Little Red Wagon. Fun for everyone as usual. If this group had a motto, it could be "Laugh, Love, Live your life."

Often we need reminders of what we should, or should not, do. One, according to the National Highway Safety Administration, is distracted driving (not to do).

Some distractions are: talking to a passenger or to someone on a cell phone (even hands-free phones are a problem), looking at roadside objects, children in the back seat, reading a map, dialing the radio, etc.

The most dangerous is texting, as well as using cell phones. Texting or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for five seconds. At 55 m.p.h., that is like driving the length of a football field, blind-folded -- something to seriously consider.

An added thought on the subject -- "Most people use their hands and feet to drive; a few also use their heads."

Happy birthday to Gail Myers, Gerald Kidd, Leon Tucker, Tommy Reed, Sue Kinion, Wilma Davis, Robi Carter, Payton Long, Janice Waldrop, Matthew Hudgens, Ryan Macy, Bo Jones, Josh Moore, Jack Norton and Judy Cohea.

Happy anniversary to Charlie and Carol Pitts.

Happy years, all.
