Farmington Center Receives Grant For Meals

Farmington Senior Center received a $500 grant from Meals on Wheels America for its participation in the 13th Annual March for Meals campaign. This year's grants were made possible through the generosity of Subaru of America Inc. and its seventh annual "Share the Love" event. During the event, Subaru donated $250 to the owner's choice of participating charities for every new vehicle purchased or leased.

"Our Meals on Wheels America membership has given us the opportunity to partner with Subaru and to increase awareness of our Program," said Lisa McClelland, director of Farmington Senior Center. "Our fundraising efforts were greatly enhanced by the March for Meals Campaign. We are grateful for the support and encouragement of MOWA and Subaru."

Throughout the month of March, the Farmington center raised funds by hosting a Ken Harvey Dinner and Music Show, bringing in $1,715 from this event. Farmington Mayor Ernie Penn delivered meals during Community Champions Week and Fire Chief Mark Cunningham came to the Center to pack meals. The grant funds will be used to pay for food costs for Farmington's Meals on Wheels program.

In total, $370,250 is being granted to 258 local Meals on Wheels programs and two Meals on Wheels America-affiliated State Associations based on their March for Meals efforts.

The annual March for Meals campaign is an effort led by Meals on Wheels America to present opportunities for volunteers, businesses and governments to support seniors in a variety of ways that make communities stronger, safer and healthier. For more information, visit marchformeals.com.
