Council Seeks New Master Plan For Park

FARMINGTON -- A new Master Plan for Creekside Park will help city officials determine how to use 32 acres donated to the park in December and will help the city qualify for grants in the future.

Farmington City Council approved a request last week to advertise for a request for qualifications from professional design consultants to develop a new park Master Plan. The plan will include all 61 acres in the park, not just the newest sections.

Melissa McCarville, city business manager, explained consultants will submit proposals and the final price will be negotiated between the city and consulting firm. She estimates the process to complete a Master Plan will cost $20,000 to $30,000.

Proposals are due by 5 p.m. April 2, with a decision on selecting a firm to be made April 8. The Master Plan would be completed sometime in July.

The P.R. Green Family Trust donated 32 acres of undeveloped land to the city on Dec. 1, 2014. The land is located on both sides of Broyles Avenue, adjacent to Creekside Park.

In other action March 9, City Council members rezoned 5.94 acres at 55 Rainsong from Residential-2 to Multi-Family 2, at the request of Peachtree Village in Farmington. Katie Papasan, an attorney representing Peachtree Village, told aldermen that the assisted living home was refinancing and the new lender pointed out Peachtree Village was in the wrong zoning classification.

Council also approved a request to apply for a mini-grant for $4,200 for the Farmington Police Department and to purchase a new 2015 Dodge Charger for police for $34,000. The Police Department has already been approved for the mini-grant and will use the money to help equip the new car, which is a budgeted item.

City Clerk Kelly Penn reported that the city sales tax was up by more than $11,000 for February, compared to February 2014.
