Warrant Amnesty Period Opens For District Court

Prairie Grove District Court will be conducting a two-week amnesty period for those who have been issued warrants from Prairie Grove Police Department or who have been issued Prairie Grove District Court warrants through Washington County Sheriff's Office, according to Capt. Jeff O'Brien with Prairie Grove Police Department.

The warrant amnesty period will run from Dec. 7-12. O'Brien said the district court decided to have a warrant amnesty period to relieve the overwhelming warrants on the books.

Those with an original warrant from Prairie Grove Police Department can come to the department during those days and they will be given a court date and will not have to go to jail or post bond, O'Brien said.

Anyone with a Washington County warrant initiated through Prairie Grove District Court will have to go to Washington County Detention Center. They will be released without having to post bond.

Many suspects are reluctant to turn themselves in because of fear of going to jail, O'Brien said. This way, they will not have to go to jail. The amnesty also will save them money because they do not have to post bond.

"Merry Christmas," O'Brien added.
