Native Plant Workshop Planned

Northwest Arkansas Master Naturalists and the Illinois River Watershed Partnership are presenting a Native Plant Workshop and Native Plant Sale at the IRWP Learning Center in Cave Springs on Friday, August 12 from 9 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. Cost is $25, lunch is provided. The speakers of the workshop include:

Neal Mays, Benton County Cooperative Extension Service, will speak about NWA soils in Soil, What Soil?

Cody George, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, will give two presentations, Native Plants that Thrive in the Garden and Nectar Plants for Pollinators.

Bennett Whitley, Compton Gardens, will speak on Host Plants for Pollinators.

Patti Irwin, Arkansas Forestry Commission, will speak on Selecting Native Trees for the Urban Landscape.

Susan Jason, Landscape Creations, will talk about Design Considerations when using native plants.

The workshop is open to the public. Register at www.irwp.org.

Across the street from the Learning Center, the Native Plant Sale will last from 11 am to 6 pm. Workshop participants can pre order their plants to pick up after the workshop. Plants are priced at $5, trees are $15. The sale is open to the public. Fall planting season is coming up and this is a good opportunity to buy your plants.
