NWA Hot Shots Finish Runner-Up At 12U Nationals

Team Members Are From Farmington, Elkins, Lincoln and Prairie Grove

A summer softball team loaded with players from Washington County finished runner-up at the USSSA 12U National Championship in Kansas City this past weekend.

The NWA Hot Shots 03 entered bracket play after going undefeated in pool play with victories against the Central Iowa Stealth (5-1), the Collinsville (Okla.) Cardinals (5-4) and the Kansas Fireballers (6-1).

The Hot Shots opened double elimination bracket play with a 12-0 win against the Maumelle (Ark.) Diamonds before being sent to the loser's bracket with a 4-2 loss against the NWA Legends 03. They battled through the heat to reach the championship game with a 12-1 win against the Iowa Lady Knights and a 6-4 victory against Nebraska Tractor House. In the loser's bracket final, they battled temperatures pushing triple digits for two hours during a 13-12 win against Collinsville in seven innings.

In the championship, the Hot Shots needed to knock off the team that sent them to the loser's bracket, the NWA Legends, twice to win the National Championship, but lost 6-5 in the first game to finish second overall.

The NWA Hots Shots finished the summer with a 47-22 overall record, including a 31-13 in-class record.

From Farmington, members of the team are Remington Adams, Brianna Crowley, Carson Griggs, Drew Clifford and Allie Devecsery. From Prairie Grove, team members are Karoline McConnell, Sydney Stearman and Madie Huthcinson. Elkins players are Lauren Rogers, Emma Rogers and Brooklyn Haney while Lincoln is represented by Ryleigh Landrum.

The NWA Hot Shots are headed up by coach Mike McConnell with Eric Crowley and Brad Griggs serving as assistants.
