Recognizing Tourney Volunteers

PRAIRIE GROVE -- A host of local volunteers staffed the the first Jarren Sorters Memorial Baseball Tournament hosted by Prairie Grove March 21-23 at Rieff Park.

The hospitality tent fed all coaches, volunteers and managers.

Volunteer coordinator Michelle Cates had a lot of help, including her husband, Billy Don Cates; along with Shawn Fidler, Bart Orr, Rodney and Mandy Allen, Charity Ruley and more. Carol Wade brought fried pies on Tuesday and Ronnie Raper, who works for Tyson, was instrumental in donation of chicken, which was on the menu for Tuesday. Chips were donated by Mexican Original and volunteers brought various things such as napkins, cups, plates, eating utensils, sweet tea, soft drinks, gatorade and ice.

"It's basically, the entire baseball team parents," said Michelle Cates.

"I've been a part of so many things like this, you always get so many people who are so willing to help," said Charity Ruley.

Matt Burkhart drove over from Tulsa to help with the field maintenance on Tuesday. Burkhart has known Prairie Grove baseball coach Chris Mileham for 15 years. They have played and coached together in the Fayetteville American Legion program.

"He's always asking me to come over and check out his field and his program," Burkhart said. "This is a big ordeal, having to do field work for three games a day. I knew he would need some help, it was a chance to get over and see his field and take a look at his program. They have great hospitality here."
