My apology to those whose birthdays fell on the column that I failed to send in for the first of the year! With three days of celebrations and an early deadline, it was impossible to finish.

The three celebrations were unforgettable with the family gathering at my house one day, another at Johnny and Anna's to celebrate Christmas and her birthday, and the other at Edwin and Janet's. What happy memories made!

So, belated greetings to Larissa Latta, Felicia Ramirez, Jennifer Hobbs, Kathy Stumbaugh, Michael Snarr, Lauren Wofford, Becky Carter, Beverly Atteberry, Waylin Luttrell, Pat Summers. I hope they were happy ones.

Another year has begun, and instead of New Year's resolutions, maybe we should look back and see if we can improve on last year.

Is anybody happier because you passed his way?

Does anyone remember that you spoke to him today?

Can you say tonight, in parting with the day that's slipping fast,

That you helped a single brother of the many that you passed?

Is a single heart rejoicing over what you did or said?

Does the man whose hopes were fading now with courage look ahead?

Did you leave a trail of kindness, or a scar of discontent?

Did you leave a careless word behind instead of what you really meant?

As you close your eyes in slumber, do your think that God will say,

"You have earned one more tomorrow by the work you did today"?

Happy birthday to Dee Pettigrew, Rachel Brunner and Skyla Brunner (twins), Doris Thurman, Doug Hulse, Johnny Swain, Darlis Holloway, Johnny Loftin, Edwin Roy, Caleb Lipford, Tom Pennell, Verna Lou Snodgrass, Chris Bradley, Jake Barnes, Sheryl Roy, Paul Myers, Ronnie New, Ronnie Rinehart.

Happy anniversary to Bill and Barbara Griscom.

Happy years, all!
